Bevel-Serts and Snap-Serts

Infra-Tect, Inc. is now taking orders for its patented, unrivaled product, the Bevel-Sert, which is proven to address corrosion and safety issues while improving the quality of ductile iron pipe (DIP) underground water and wastewater infrastructure. Infra-Tect is also taking orders for its Snap-Sert, used to encapsulate the exposed cut end of Asbestos Cement Pipe (ACP) during installation, repair, and removal/disposal.

The Bevel-Sert 
The United States and countries worldwide are facing massive failures in their water and sewer pipe infrastructure. This corrosion-related failure costs billions of dollars per year to repair or replace. Leakage in existing pipe infrastructure accounts for approximately 22% of current water bills. Current methods for repair and/or replacement of corroded pipes are both expensive and unsafe, as well as in violation of OSHA safety regulations.

The Bevel-Sert Isolation Flange is a pre-beveled radius insert used in conjunction with any size buried DIP. It is the first product that specifically addresses both corrosion and safety issues, as well as water leakage, when utilized to connect infrastructure pipes. The Bevel-Sert is designed to make infrastructure pipe joints electrically discontinuous, thereby reducing the corrosion rate and effectively extending the useful life of water and sewage pipes well beyond their current life expectancy. Additionally, the Bevel-Sert provides for a better bevel at the pipe joint, effectively reducing the potential for leakage at the rubber gasket. The Bevel-Sert saves on average 81% of the pipe joining time. It also reduces worker’s compensation claims caused by safety issues with the current OSHA prohibited practice of using a gas-powered cut-off saw to grind a bevel onto the end of the pipe.

Without the Bevel-Sert, corrosion issues abound in metal pipes. That corrosion leads to a shorter life span for the pipes, which in result leads to increased costs for municipalities as they need to replace these pipes more often. According to the 2009 “Report Card for America’s Infrastructures” by the American Society of Civil Engineers; “New solutions are needed for what amounts to nearly $1 trillion in critical drinking water and wastewater investments over the next two decades.” Corrosion also translates to millions of gallons of wasted water – our most precious resource. Depending on location, the current replacement cost of an eight-inch water main can be as high as $180 per foot. The simple investment in the economical Bevel-Sert drastically cuts installation time and expense and exponentially extends serviceable life costs of the pipe.

The Bevel-Sert, with its patented design and ease of installation also requires less assembly force than factory beveled pipe. This is in part due to the beveled high density polyethylene radius versus a straight 30 degree angle as found on uncut or field beveled pipe. The reduction in assembly force reduces the possibility of rolled or cut gaskets thus providing peace of mind and a cheap insurance policy that the installation will not leak.

The Snap-Sert is a fast, easy way to encapsulate friable asbestos on the ends of Asbestos Cement Pipe (ACP) and prevent its release into the environment and potable water systems. It also reduces erosion of ACP at the cut end by encapsulating the end of the pipe so water flow and resulting turbulence cannot erode the end of the pipe and induce asbestos into the water system.

Made from NSF-61 approved ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, the Snap-Sert encapsulates the exposed cut end of ACP during installation, repair and replacement, thus reducing asbestos exposure to workers and the public, and promoting safe handling and disposal of ACP as identified in OSHA regulation 1926.1101(g)(5)(ii)(B)(6).
